Winner of TOP 50 Year 12 Trailblazers for 2021

I’m pleased to have been announced as one of the Top 50 Year 12 Trailblazers for 2021! The awards, hosted by respected tutoring & mentoring organisation Art of Smart, celebrates Year 12 students beyond their ATAR, recognising those who used their final year of school to positively impact their community.

I won a place in the Top 50 through my volunteering at SWR 99.9 FM, a community radio station in Blacktown. It was also based on my work with founding and accelerating Glenwood Radio. This included developing it into a radio simulation for students and mentoring students to run and take over the station after my graduation. The project had a huge positive impact on the whole school community. Most notably, it excited students to attend school on Friday’s to enjoy the music played in the quad.

Some of my involvement with SWR FM includes Managing the Digital & Marketing Department. I’m responsible for a team of six people and have led them through the new website development and its launch. This also included regular training and mentoring, allowing my team and the station’s volunteers to get comfortable with emerging technologies and platforms. This became incredibly crucial during Sydney’s first lockdown, where we had to rethink the way we broadcast entirely.

As part of being one of the Year 12 Trailblazers, I was invited to an exclusive career workshop. Some of the topics included getting a better understanding of the University, including finances and the work involved. It also included building excellent resumes and LinkedIn profiles, and improving our interpersonal skills to sell our personal brands.
